Refugee Resettlement
On a limited basis, Catholic Charities is involved in the resettlement of refugees from around the world. At this time, Catholic Charities only accepts Family Reunification cases. Our mission includes the preservation and support of families. We assist families in reuniting and begin their adjustment to life in a new land. Family Reunification cases are an individual or a family that is sponsored by a family member who currently lives in the United States.
Refugees are people who seek safety outside their country due to a well-founded fear of persecution on account of race, religion, nationality, membership in a particular social group, or because of political opinions. The Catholic Church has a lengthy history of working to help populations who are displaced from their homelands due to war, famine or religious or political persecution. The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) is one of the largest resettlement agencies in the United States. The State Department contracts with USCCB, who in turn contracts with Catholic Charities agencies across the nation to resettle refugees in their communities and provide services which support their successful integration into the United States.
The Refugee Resettlement program is always in need of volunteers! If you would like the opportunity to become a friend to a newly arrived family, please contact Michael Kuany, Family Strengthening Manager at (920) 272-8234 or [email protected].
