REFUGEE RESETTLEMENT

On a limited basis, Catholic Charities is involved in the resettlement of refugees from around the world. At this time, Catholic Charities only accepts Family Reunification cases. Our mission includes the preservation and support of families. We assist families in reuniting and beginning their adjustment to life in a new land. Family Reunification cases involve an individual or a family sponsored by a family member currently living in the United States.

Refugees are people who seek safety outside their country due to a well-founded fear of persecution on account of race, religion, nationality, membership in a particular social group, or because of political opinions. The Catholic Church has a lengthy history of working to help populations who are displaced from their homelands due to war, famine or religious or political persecution. The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) is one of the largest resettlement agencies in the United States. The State Department contracts with USCCB, who in turn contracts with Catholic Charities agencies across the nation to resettle refugees in their communities and provide services that support their successful integration into the United States.
