REPRESENTATIVE PAYEE
The Representative Payee Program has been established for Social Security benefit check recipients who need a representative payee to improve their lives. This program is approved by the Social Security Administration (SSA). Clients are normally referred to this program by the SSA or other service agencies.
Whether clients request this service or are referred by a service agency, the SSA must approve client participation. Participation requires clients to open a custodial checking and savings account with our agency. Our agency will handle clients' bill payments and disburse personal spending money to clients up to four times a month.
To ensure that participation improves a client's life, clients are required to discuss their budget with a counselor once a month. Catholic Charities budgets with clients, and encourages clients to save their surplus to ensure that they will have a chance to cover their unexpected expenses and meet their saving goals. We also keep a record of disbursements for client bills and client personal spending money. In addition, we carry insurance in case there are accounting errors. Clients can find peace of mind by participating in this program.
This program is available at our offices in Green Bay and Manitowoc. For questions on fees or other information, please call an office near you.
