Refugees
What is a refugee?
Refugees are people who seek safety outside their country due to a well-founded fear of persecution on account of race, religion, nationality, membership in a particular social group, or because of political opinions. The Catholic Church has a lengthy history of working to help populations who are displaced from their homelands due to war, famine or religious or political persecution. The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) is one of the largest resettlement agencies in the United States. The State Department contracts with USCCB, who in turn contracts with Catholic Charities agencies across the nation to resettle refugees in their communities and provide services that support their successful integration into the United States.
